Under 18s in Cup Final
13th December 2005

Congratulation to Steve Whitings Under 18 Team who became what we hope will be our first Cup Finalists of the current season. On 4th December 2005, playing away against local rivals Fishersgate Flyers they took control of the game in the second half to secure their place in the final with a 4-2 victory. Man of the match Gary French was well supported with the goals coming from Mark Kokut, Jack Whittington, Marc Rewell and Neil Thomas.
Adur Athletic Football Club - Kit to Angola
12th December 2005

On his recent business trip to Angola, our Vice President Terry Burton, went laden down with kits from this Club that were given to ADPP (Ajuda de Desenvolvimento de Provo para Povo Angola), a Danish Volunteer Organisation who run teacher training colleges in Angola that is preparing teachers to work all over Angola in rural communities.

The students curriculum involves them in playing football several times a week. The students play amongst themselves and other local teams - but it is extremely rare for any of the teams to have kit.

The smaller sizes that were also taken to Angola will be kept at the college for the use of streetkids from Angola, the streetkids having no homes, or who have been disowned by their families. Many of these streetkids rely on charities for their food and accommodation, but many more have to live on what they can find on the streets.

The pictures show some of the students in two of the kits.

Thanks again to British Airways who transported the kit free of charge.

Year of the Volunteer Awards 2005
7th October 2005

The year 2005 has been nominated as the Year of the Volunteer, and the Year of the Volunteer Awards celebrates and acknowledges the contribution of volunteers in England. Commemorative medals have been struck by the Royal Mint and are to be presented to 2005 recipients across England.

At an awards ceremony held at County Hall, Chichester on Thursday 6th October our Secretary and Treasurer David Fickweiler, was one of thirty people from West Sussex to be presented with a medal to mark his volunteer work and commitment to this Club and football in Sussex over a period of 30 years.

David, who has also been selected as a Regional Champion, has been invited to a Year of the Volunteer Celebration event in London in January, where, together with 449 other recipients of the medal they will celebrate the achievements of all volunteers in England.

Commenting on the award, David said that is always appreciated when someone says thank you, and it is an honour to be recognised in this way. He also said that the award reflected on the hard work of all volunteers at the Club.

Club Vist to Nijmegan, Holland
26th June 2005

Over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend our Under 14 and 13 teams together with club officials and parents visited Nijmegen, Holland where they enjoyed another great weekend, thanks to the hospitality of the host club Quick 1888.

This is the nineteenth year in succession that exchanges have taken place between the two clubs and strong friendship has grown over those years between the two clubs.

The pictures show the teams with the teams from Quick 1888 immediately before the teams played for the Shoreham Centre Cups, both cups being played for annually between the two clubs.

On this visit Quick 1888 won both games to win back the cups that Adur Athletic had won in 2004 when Quick visited Shoreham.

Ten Days... Five Trophies
18th May 2005

In the past ten days Adur Athletic have won a further five trophies to add to that one by the Under 11-A League Championship won back in March.

Adur's Senior Team 2 started the trophy haul on Monday 4th April by winning the Worthing & District League Croshaw Cup. In the final, Adur from Division 3, playing by far the better football of the two teams, beat AMC Athletic of Division 2 by 3 goals to 1. On Saturday 9th April, Adur's Senior Team 1 secured the Worthing & District League Division 1 League Championship, making sure of the title by beating GSK Reserves 4-0. Next Season this team will be playing in the Premier Division, a great schievement for this team in only their fourth season in the League. The team's mean defence that only conceded 12 goals in their league programme whilst, at the same time, being joint top goal scorers in the League greatly assisted in their Championship win. On Sunday 10th April Adur added two more trophies to the collection. In the morning, at Shoreham F.C., the Girls Under 13 Team overcame Southwater Girls to take the SCFA Womens & Girls Football League Cup, winning the game 5-1. A great achievement for this team who, in the two league meetings with Southwater had suffered a defeat in the first, but managed to draw the second against the odds. Well done girls.

In the afternoon, at Arundel F.C., the Under 15 Boys Team beat local rivals Thistle Youth 4-0 to win the Arun & Chichester Youth League Cup. In a game when they were always the better team their greater strength and determination ensured their victory. A class display from Harry Constable who scored two of Adur's goals assisted in this victory. The Under 15s are also in with a chance of winning the Under 15 League Championship. On Wednesday 13th April Adur's Senior Team added the Worthing & District League Division 3 Championship to their earlier Cup success when they overcame TMG 4-2 and so secured the first Senior League & Cup Double by an Adur men's team since season 1982/83. In their League Championship run, like Senior Team 1, this team conceded less than a goal a game and were also the league's top goal scorers.

A great 10 days, possibly the best in the Club's history.
Fifth cup final placement for Adur Athletic
16th March 2005

Adur Athletic Football Club congratulates our Under 15 Team who became the fifth team from the Club to book their place in a Cup Final, the Arun & Chichester Under 15 League Cup. On Sunday 13/3/05 Adur beat Worthing Dynamos 4-2 after extra time to book their place in the Final that will be played on Sunday 10/4/05 at Arundel Football Club, kick off 3:30pm
Girls Under 13's Sting Crawley Wasps!
10th March 2005

On Sunday 6th March our Girls Under 13 Team won their League Cup Semi Final against League Leaders Crawley Wasps to book their place in the League Cup Final on Sunday 10th April.

The girls gained this victory against all the odds, for in their previous league meetings this season they had lost both games, and in the semi final they only had nine players for the first half, and only 10 for the second half. A great achievement in the circumstances. We wish the girls all the best on the 10th.

Unfortunately, on Sunday, our Under 16s lost their County Cup Final against Crowborough Athletic 4 - 3. None the less, in a season in which the team suffered many long term injuries, to win through to the final was a magnificent achievement and they were a credit not only to themselves, but also to this Club. Well done to all the team!
Cup Finals
9th March 2005

In a busy week for cup competitions three of Adur's teams won through and will be appearing in cup finals in March.

The Under 16s started the run of semi-final victories on Sunday 27th February in the Sussex County Football Association Minor Cup, a competition for Under 16 teams from across the County. They beat Whyke United 2 - 1 and will face Crowborough Athletic in the final, at Shoreham F.C. on Sunday 6th March. On Saturday 5th February it was the turn of the two senior teams to keep the momentum rolling.

Senior Team 1, playing in the Worthing & District League Walmsley Cup beat AFC Broadwater 2 - 1 and will play their final against East Worthing at Woodside Road, Worthing on Monday 21st March.

Senior Team 2, playing in the Worthing & District Football League Croshaw Cup won through to the final for the second year in succession, beating Worthing B.C.O.B. Reserves 3 - 0. They will play their final on Monday 7th March at Woodside Road and hope to go one better than last year when they were runners up.
